How it works
Someone submits a repo
One GitHub issue: the repo, a category and a line on what it does. Anyone can do it, including the people who built it.
A bot checks it
Open source licence, a README with substance, a push in the last 90 days, at least 30 days old. Pass, and it's listed. No waiting on a person.
Developers Like it
Every repo gets its own Discussion. A thumbs-up there is a Like, and Likes set the order you see above.
Questions people ask
What counts as a Like?
A thumbs-up on the repo's Discussion, from an account that's at least 30 days old and has a public repo or a contribution in the last year. A batch of brand-new accounts can react all they like. The ranking won't move.
Why not just sort by stars?
Stars pile up for years and almost never come down, so the same giants sit on top forever. A Like is a developer vouching for a repo now, and the weekly arrows show who's climbing.
Where did a repo go?
A repo that goes a year without a push, gets archived or says it's unmaintained gets a 30-day warning, then moves to the archive. It comes back by itself if things pick up. Deleted repos, and ones that lose their licence or README, come off straight away.
Know a repo that deserves a spot?
Submitting takes a minute. The bot does the rest, and you'll hear back on the issue.
